Group 'Day of Service' Volunteer EVENTS
National Links Trust welcomes volunteer groups for one-time service projects throughout our three Washington, DC golf facilities - Rock Creek Park Golf, Langston Golf Course, and East Potomac Golf Links. Projects may include Habitat Restoration (Invasive Plant Removal or Native Species Plantings), Trash Clean-up, or Driving Range Clean-up. These projects help make a difference at our facilities and in the community!
More details:
The projects listed within this form are designed for groups up to 30 volunteers, depending on the activity. If your group is larger than 30, we may need to split them into multiple groups with projects at different locations or time frames. For groups smaller than 5, please see our running list of on-going volunteer events to find the opportunity that works best for your group.
Project times are during the weekday from 9am - 4pm and are usually 2-3 hours in length. Weekends maybe available on a limited, case-by-case basis depending on size, golf course and time of day.
Please complete the form linked below at least 3-4 weeks prior to your preferred project date.
Please contact Volunteer Coordinator Andrew Szunyog at aszunyog@nationallinkstrust.com with any questions.

Kingman Lake Cleanup
National Links Trust is partnering with Osprey Initiative, an organization that specializes in the tactical cleanups of wetlands and waterways across the southeastern United States. For five days (December 4-8), Osprey will be on-site at Langston Golf Course, removing trash and debris that's been collecting along the shoreline of Kingman Lake over the past several decades. Additionally, Osprey will use their expertise to remove tons of pounds of goose fencing and fence posts put in place many years ago to keep geese from disturbing native wild rice restoration plots. The fencing must be removed to continue the progress the restoration efforts have made so far. In addition to Osprey Initiative, we are excited to include our friends at the Anacostia Watershed Society to help increase the reach and scope of this event.
Volunteer Activation: As part of the project scope, NLT is activating a large-scale volunteer event on Saturday, December 6th, from 12:00-4:00pm at Langston Golf Course to supplement Osprey's efforts and to remove as much trash from the lake as possible.
AGE RESTRICTION: Due to the increased risk of this event, all volunteers must be 15 years of age or older to participate. All volunteers will be required to complete the NLT Waiver to participate (complete online by clicking HERE and selecting the Kingman Lake Cleanup option in the last question). Volunteers under the age of 18 must have their parent or guardian complete the waiver. *PLEASE DO NOT SIGN UP A LARGE GROUP!* We ask all volunteers to register themselves. However, you may register yourself and no more than two additional friends only! We want everyone to have an opportunity to participate in this event.
To register, please click HERE.
Volunteer Jobs: We are recruiting up to 60 volunteers to work across 6 locations in one of the following three job categories: Wader Team, Shoreline Team, or Data Team.
Wader Team (18 total spots - Experience Preferred): The Wader Team will wear waders and will walk along the shoreline collecting and bagging trash. Participants must be comfortable working on muddy, unstable ground with slippery surfaces. You may use your own waders or request waders from one of our community partners. The project manager will follow up to collect wader sizes.
Shoreline Team (36 total spots): This group is designed for people who want to collect trash but wish to stay out of the water. The Shoreline Team will work throughout the Kingman Lake shoreline, collecting trash and debris caught in the vegetation and scattered along the shoreline. The Shoreline Team will work closely with the Wader Team by taking loads of collected material to trash drop areas on the golf course. Caution: This group will encounter steep and slippery surfaces and tripping hazards like roots, vines, and animal holes along the elevated berm in the woods along the Kingman Lake shoreline. It is also possible to encounter poison ivy in these areas.
Data Team (5 total spots): If you like crunching numbers and want to help document the impact of this cleanup, the Data Team is your spot. This group will help the Osprey team by capturing weights, volumes, and the litter profile information about the material collected. This is great for those participants who are interested in the behind-the-scenes activities but don't want to get too wet or muddy.
Questions: Please email any questions to Andrew Szunyog, NLT Director of Sustainability and Kingman Lake Cleanup Project Manager at aszunyog@nationallinkstrust.com. All volunteers will receive detailed information about the event in the lead-up to December 6th.
Habitat Restoration with the Anacostia Watershed Society
Join the NLT Habitat Restoration Team and the Anacostia Watershed Society in removing invasive vegetation and trash from the designated volunteer restoration area at Langston Golf Course. These removal events are the foundation of our restoration work, and they will ultimately guide our long-term rehabilitation plan. These events are also a great way to get some exercise, relieve some stress, and meet and engage with fellow municipal golf enthusiasts and environmental stewards. More details on the event will come from the Anacostia Watershed Society before the event. We hope to see you there!
